There are many websites out there for lactose intolerants, people with casein allergies, and people with straight-up milk allergies, but very few (if any) for those of us who are allergic to whey. While those other types of sites may be used by people with whey allergies, this site is dedicated solely to the whey-allergic.
I hope to add more information to this site, so that it is not just a list of products that do and do not contain whey, but also a reference and guide for the whey allergic. However, this is very new to me, and I am learning as I go. Also, I have some web design experience, but not enough to whip out a new page in an hour, which is about all the time I have to spend every few months, so this site will probably never look pretty.
For now, let me say that if something has dairy in it, it is likely to have whey in it. If something is marked "vegan" or "Kosher Parve," it will not have whey in it. On the pages listing foods containing whey, I have made a couple of distinctions - one, marked with an asterisk, is for foods that contain less than 2% of whey products. Sensitivity to whey varies, so some with whey sensitivity may be able to eat these foods without a reaction. The other, marked with an asterisk within parenthesis, is for foods that I am not sure about. I'm not entirely clear about what goes into processing for different dairy products, and thus cannot say with confidence that these foods do or do not contain whey (but have listed them on the whey page to be on the safe side).
I have no agenda for this website. I am not anti-milk, anti-meat, anti-people who eat meat, etc. You want to avoid whey? This site will help. You don't? This site will help. In general, I try to buy organic and free range, and attempt to steer clear of companies that use unsustainable practices, violate human rights, union-bust, genetically modify, use growth hormones or antibiotics, or use inhumane practices with regard to animals. But I'm not perfect, and I am an American, with habits tuned toward convenience. Regardless of my own habits, this site is meant to be a reference, not a conversion or political site. As such, not all of the products listed will be ones I have eaten or would eat.
However, I will try to provide information about companies that try to conceal allergen information from consumers, including news stories and lawsuits (see the news section). These bits will likely include my own commentary.
And, of course, the disclaimer - I am not a medical professional, and am not responsible for your use of this site. Nothing on this site is guaranteed to be accurate, and you follow the guides at your own risk.
